  • Whistler in the fall

    It is fall in Whistler, a magical time enhanced by the gentle approach of Canada's loveliest season. As September draws to a close, the winter crowds have yet to arrive. Mountain peaks, covered in a fine sprinkling of snow, break through low-lying clouds in the early morning. Sugar maples in a magnificent display set the village afire with hues of crimson, wine, apricot and pink.

    It was a crisp morning when we boarded the Whistler Mountaineer train in Vancouver for a spectacular three-hour ride to Canada's top destination resort. A slow and winding perambulation at speeds no more than 25 kilometres an hour transported us through mountains, old-growth forest, alongside Howe Sound, and through villages such as Brackendale, where close to 2,000 bald eagles gather each November to feast on salmon returning to their birthplaces to spawn.
