WINNIPEG Rifles quarterback Khaleal Williams has been named the Canadian Junior Football League's outstanding offensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Though the Rifles are 1-3 heading into their bye this weekend, Williams last week helped engineer an impressive fourth-quarter charge in Edmonton against the Wildcats. The Rifles trailed by 21 points going into the final frame and lost by a single point in a 42-41 decision.
The third-year veteran completed 29 of 45 passes for 484 yards and tossed five touchdown strikes. The Rifles sit in fifth place in the six-team Prairie Football Conference but are second in points scored with 120.
The CJFL special teams player of the week earned his accolade against the Rifles as Wildcats kick returner David Berg ran back a missed Rifles field goal 125 yards for a touchdown. That tied the record for the fourth longest all-time CJFL kick return.
The Rifles will play three straight home games in Canad Inns Stadium Sept. 14, 21, 28, against the Calgary Colts, Regina Thunder and Edmonton Huskies.
