Two 17-year-old boys have escaped from the Agassiz Youth Centre near Portage la Prairie.
RCMP in Portage said shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, the youths scaled the perimeter fence of the 59-acre compound where the facility is located and fled the area.
A search for the boys has proved fruitless, so police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the two, who may be on their way back to Winnipeg where they are from.
The first youth is described as aboriginal, 5' 7" and 138 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair. He has a gang tattoo with the letters M.O.B. on his right forearm covered with the words "skull" and "bones."
The second youth is also described as aboriginal, 5' 4" and 165 lbs. with brown eyes and black hair. He has a scar on his right forearm and burn marks on both legs.
Police anticipate issuing arrest warrants for the youths, said Const. David Higgs of the Portage RCMP in a statement.
Higgs asked anyone with information about where to locate the youths to call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
