Manitobans returned to the dealer showrooms in March, pushing up new-vehicle sales and making up for some of the ground that was lost in the previous month.

New Statistics Canada figures released today show 4,259 new cars and trucks were driven off the dealership lots in March.
That was a 1.3 per cent increase from February’s total of 4,204 units, and partially offset February’s 4.7 per cent decline. It was the sixth highest month-over-month increase among the 10 provinces.
On a year-over-year basis, March's sales total was a 7.6 per cent improvement from March, 2007. That, too, was the sixth highest gain among the provinces.
Nationally, new vehicles sales fell by 0.5 per cent from February to March in the wake of weaker sales of both cars and trucks.
However, that didn't prevent Canadian dealers from ringing up their biggest first-quarter sales gain in a decade, at 9.1 per cent, the agency said.
