The Forks water bus casts off at noon Saturday to begin its season of river transportation.
A $3 one-way ticket will buy a ride on the boat that motors down the Assiniboine River and along the downtown part of the Red River, stopping at nine separate docks, owner Gord Cartwright said.
Splash Dash owner Gordon Cartwright says he's prepared for anything the volatile river levels may throw his business this year.
Splash Dash makes its inaugural launch for 2008 at noon Saturday until 10 p.m. and it will run until Thanksgiving Day weekend in October, water levels permitting.
Every Saturday and Sunday Splash Dash will run the loop from noon to 10 p.m.
In July and August, the water bus starts a seven-day a week schedule.
In the 16 years Cartwright has run the Dash, he's had only one perfect season, in 2003. Most other years, the Dash has shipped out in July and August. And moored in May and June,
So this year, water levels are letting the Dash keep its spring schedule, a rare event, he said.
One of Splash Dash's historical river tours, which have already been running for two weeks.
The route is the same, nine docks from Hugo Street on the Assiniboine to The Forks and to the Exchange on the Red, in a continuous loop that cycles through every 15 minutes.
Two weeks ago, Splash Dash resumed its 30 -minute historical boat rides from The Forks. They run from 10 a.m. to sunset, weather permitting, seven days a week. Points of interest include the Legislature, St. Boniface Cathedral and the Exchange District. Rates are $10 adults, $9 seniors. Kids age three and under ride free.
